Extractions & Wisdom Teeth in Portland

Gentle extractions with a clear plan

Sometimes the healthiest choice is removing a tooth, especially when there is severe decay, fracture below the gumline, or problematic wisdom teeth. We make the process calm, straightforward, and as painless as possible, with sedation options if you’d like them.

When removal is recommended

  • Painful, infected, or non-restorable teeth

  • Advanced gum disease with mobility

  • Cracks that extend under the gum

  • Wisdom teeth causing pain, crowding, or infection

Sedation options

From local anesthetic only to oral or IV sedation, we’ll tailor comfort to you. Our IV sedation is delivered and monitored by a licensed CRNA for maximum safety.

What the appointment looks like

  1. Review & X-rays to assess roots, bone, and sinuses/nerve proximity.

  2. Numbing + sedation (if chosen).

  3. Gentle loosening and removal with minimal trauma to surrounding tissue.

  4. Site care (stitches if needed), detailed aftercare, and a check-in plan.

For complex impacted wisdom teeth or cases best treated by a specialist, we’ll coordinate with a trusted oral surgeon and stay with you through the process.

Aftercare basics

  • Bite on gauze for the first hour; no vigorous rinsing today.

  • Soft foods, plenty of fluids; avoid straws for 24 hours.

  • Sleep with head elevated the first night.

  • Start gentle salt-water rinses tomorrow.

  • Call us if pain or swelling escalates.

Replacing a missing tooth

We’ll discuss timing for implants, bridges, or partials - often after initial healing - so you maintain chewing comfort and a full smile.

FAQ

How sore will I be?
Mild to moderate soreness is normal for a couple of days and usually well-managed with OTC medications.

When can I work out again?
Avoid strenuous exercise for 48–72 hours to reduce bleeding/swelling.

Do all wisdom teeth need removal?
Not always. If they’re healthy, fully erupted, and easy to clean, we may simply monitor them.
